Dipping Wheels in the Pacific Ocean       Across America North         Pictures & Comments by Keith Roberson

Days 29 to 42

Lots of bucking the wind today. One of our riders said they made better time climbing up to Mt. Rushmore than they made today. Most of our days now are flat land rolling farm country. Lots of corn. 73 miles today. The next 2 days in Minnesota are 100 milers. But the winds are going to help us with a change to a tailwind. We all want this to happen! 3 more weeks and its over!

Day 29

Sioux Falls SD to Worthington MN

We gained another State, Wisconsin today. Minnesota is beautiful

Day 31

     Rochester MN to

La Crosse WI

Today was another great day for riding. Beautiful weather. Land of the Lakes is true back here in Wisconsin. It was a quick but fun 58 miles. tomorrow we catch the Ferry & go to Michigan, another State.

Day 35

Fond Du Lac WI

To Manitowoc WI

Rode 76 miles today. Overcast but we had a headwind, but it was not bad at all. Roads in places bounced us around/ruff.

Day 38

Mt. Pleasant MI to

Birch Run MI

First of all, happy birthday Julie a day late.

We did a 65 mile ride today and the pictures are enclosed. Brantford is the home town of .....Wayne Gretzky. There is a Street named after him. But the town looks to be a little run down & poor. The Mercers live up here somewhere and I know they grow Tobacco. It will be good to get back to the good old U.S.A. tomorrow!!! Niagara Falls!!

Day 41

London Ontario Canada

To Brantford Ontario Canada

Its July 18, 2006, we started at 6:15 am after loading & breakfast. I saw a lot of corn & soybeans again. I had taken lots of pictures of corn & soybeans over the last several days. I did not see the need to photograph any more corn or soy. I did see some very nice farms, a lake & a few of people riding. Got in at 2:30. 102 miles, 15.1 average, on the bike 6 hours 44 minutes. I don't usually put this stuff in but for this time.

Day 30

Worthington MN to Mankato MN

Today we rode over 35 miles on an old railroad which was turned into a trail. it is limestone and rode nice. However, I had to clean the sand out of my gears & chain. Its all clean & ready for manana. The tunnels, 3 of them, slowed us down but were interesting.

Day 33

La Crosse WI to Wisconsin Dells WI

Rode 10 miles, spent 4 plus hours on the Ferry and made it to another State. Check out the pixs.

Day 36

Manitowoc WI to

Ludington MI

We dodged the rain for another day w/ a 89 mile ride & 16.4 average. We have 10 more riding days, can you believe it?

Day 39

Birch Run MI to

Port Huron MI

Today was a big day, getting back to the U.S.A. Canada was okay and the people are friendly and its well kept but it is not America. We rode thru some interesting areas today and ended up in Niagra Falls New York. The pictures tell the story. And we have another State, New York!!

Day 42

Brantford to

Niagara Falls NY

A 2 hour Gully washer with winds and all day long strong cells moving thru was the theme today. Now I know about Minnesota summer storms. At the 35 mile mark on our ride the storm hit with gusto. Riders rode for cover. And the lightning was incredible. I bailed on the rest of the ride. I'm just not a lightning kind of guy. So did Keith & Dennis. Lots of riders believe in riding every inch no matter what, but the risk was too great for us. Bottom line these people are nuts!!!!

Day 31

Mankato MN to

          Rochester MN

We are in "The bottom of the Lake” tonight. That’s Fond du Lac. French. We had a great day for riding & this is a big recreational area. 86 miles today but some did more because they made wrong turns. It was a fun day.

Day 34

Wisconsin Dells WI

to Fond Du Lac WI

13 more days to go & we are at the Atlantic Ocean, amazing. Today was rainy from the get go. We rode in rain for 66 miles then it cleared. Only took a few pictures for fear of getting my camera wet. I sent a couple of pictures from yesterday as we came into Michigan. Don't you love those Zodiacs? It was 116 miles today. And a fun ride.

Day 37

Ludington MI to

Mt. Pleasant MI

Today was a great tail wind most of the way. We crossed the border, which is now a big thing because of the terrorists and the counter measures countries are using. We were warned not to take photos of their buildings. we got moving after being cleared as non alkieada. It was a good ride to London Ontario. 83 miles/17.5 average mph with the wind to our backs/almost like cheating. Things in Canada seem really clean and well maintained and lots of artsy touch like flowers, paint, attention to detail.

Day 40

Port Huron MI to

London Ontario Canada
